ADA/EMPLOYEE LEAVES COORDINATOR

Job Description

 POSITION OBJECTIVE

Coordinates DPS employee accommodations, programs and responsibilities to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities. Develops processes and procedures for employee leaves.

Responsible for coordinating DPS district policies and procedures and process optimization related to employee leaves and to persons with disabilities, tracking District progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations relating to persons with disabilities, filing necessary reports, and providing consultative services to schools and departments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serves as the primary planning coordinator to District programs, policies and procedures/processes and other federal and state regulations relating to ADA compliance and employee leaves.

Serves as the primary liaison with relevant state and federal agencies, as well as other ADA coordinators in school districts and private employers.

Serves as a member of the Sick Leave Bank approval committee and works with the Health Services Specialist to develop leave policies, procedures and guidelines. Interprets physician medial certification forms and follows up with physician to clarify questions/issues, as necessary.

Manages the FMLA second/third opinion process by determining validity of medical certification, following up with physician on questions/issues, working with HR partners and Benefits Manager to determine necessity of second opinions for specific circumstances.

Ensures that appropriate processes are in place to provide for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquiries from District employees.

Develops and maintains written materials and other informational pieces to broadly disseminate regarding ADA and District policies related to ADA and employee leaves.

Designs and participates in the development of presentations for District management on the provisions of equal opportunity for persons with disabilities and policies/procedures related to employee leaves.

Provides ADA program and facility interpretation and advice on compliance to District personnel.

Works with HR partner and makes final determinations regarding allegations of non-compliance under ADA .

Maintains records of all disability and accommodation issues and ensures timely filing of all required compliance reports.

Develops and implements internal measures and/or reports which inform District administration of the status of ADA compliance and employee leaves.

Remains informed and maintains current information regarding state and federal regulations as well as the best practices of other school districts and private employers concerning the rights of persons with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program standards.

Ensures that information is readily available on services policies, services, accommodations and demographics related to ADA/employee leaves.

May create and/or review approve job descriptions for necessary information related to ADA.

Skills/Requirements

 LICENSURE & CERTIFICATION

None required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration or other related field or equivalent.

Three to five years work experience in the administration of ADA compliance.

KNOWLEDGE & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of the ADA, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other state and federal regulations related to ADA. Specialized training in ADA compliance preferred.
